Green emissions sticker (Umweltplakette / Feinstaubplakette) – what you need to know
The green emissions sticker is your ticket to all German low emission zones. Without this official label, many city centres and districts remain closed to you – with legal consequences and fines.
🥇Highest officially valid emissions sticker
The green sticker is currently the highest officially issued emission group in Germany. A new “blue sticker” is regularly discussed in politics but has not been introduced. Our stickers meet the requirements of the 35. BImSchV and are legally recognised for all eligible vehicle types.
With the green sticker you meet all current requirements for low emission zones in Germany.
✅Who gets a green emissions sticker? (Petrol, diesel & electric cars)
Vehicles with low emissions usually get the green sticker. These include:
- Petrol cars with a regulated catalytic converter
- Diesel with particulate filter
- Hybrid & electric vehicles
- as well as other eligible vehicle types according to emission standard
We can tell whether your vehicle is eligible from your registration certificate. Our system checks automatically – and, if you wish, our trained team also checks manually.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the green emissions sticker (Umweltplakette / Feinstaubplakette)
A vehicle registered outside Germany also needs the green emissions sticker in German low emission zones.
To get a sticker for your vehicle registered outside Germany, provide the vehicle registration document issued in your country – for example, the V5C in the UK. The registration number, date of first registration and vehicle identification number (VIN) must be clearly legible.
Please upload the front and back of your registration document – if it has several pages, all pages showing these details.
For vehicles registered outside Germany, the sticker depends on the date of first registration – not on the Euro standard. If anything is not clear-cut, we check manually and get in touch with you.
Low emission zones are designated urban areas that may only be entered with a valid emissions sticker. In Germany's existing low emission zones – including Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt or Stuttgart – the green sticker is generally mandatory. Anyone who drives into or parks in a German low emission zone without a valid sticker risks a fine of €100 or more.
Our stickers are valid throughout Germany – also for tourists and foreign vehicles.
Numerous vehicle types qualify for a green emissions sticker – including electric cars, modern petrol cars with a regulated catalytic converter and many diesel vehicles.
For a vehicle registered outside Germany, the date of first registration in your registration document is what counts – not the Euro standard. Our system checks the details automatically; if anything is not clear-cut, we check manually.
Yes – as soon as you want to drive into a low emission zone in Germany, a valid emissions sticker is mandatory. This applies to tourists, foreign vehicles, hire cars, but also to motorhomes, vans and lorries – regardless of the number plate or country of origin.
We also accept international registration certificates, which we check manually. After you order, we send the right sticker conveniently by post – within Germany or to many other countries.
Many drivers think that the “4” on the green emissions sticker stands for Euro 4 – but that is a misconception.
The number merely indicates the colour of the sticker – i.e. green = 4, yellow = 3, red = 2.
These numbers are for quick visual checks in traffic but say nothing about the specific emission standard.
Red and yellow stickers do still exist, but:
➡️ In almost all German low emission zones only the green sticker (4) is valid.
Vehicles with a red or yellow sticker may not enter there.
Vehicles with a suitable emission standard get the green sticker – for example:
- Most diesel cars from Euro 4
- Electric cars
- Petrol cars with a regulated catalytic converter
For a vehicle registered outside Germany, the date of first registration is what counts – we check your registration document before printing.
And what about the blue sticker for electric cars?
It really does exist – but it is not an emissions sticker in the classic sense.
It is intended for electric vehicles registered abroad: it is placed at the rear of the vehicle, usually on the rear window. Electric cars registered in Germany can obtain an E number plate instead; the blue e-sticker is not intended for them.
✅ Since 1 October 2026, electric vehicles with an electric-vehicle marking under Section 11 FZV no longer need a green emissions sticker (Annex 3 No. 11 of the 35th BImSchV): vehicles registered in Germany with an “E” on the number plate, and vehicles registered abroad with the blue e-sticker or an equivalent foreign electric-vehicle number plate or sticker. Electric vehicles without such a marking generally still need the green sticker for low emission zones.
No – emissions stickers cannot be reused or moved to another vehicle. They are deliberately made to tear or come apart when removed – to protect against forgery. If you try to remove or reposition the sticker, it will usually tear or become unusable. A damaged sticker or one that has fallen off is also no longer valid.
If your sticker is damaged, illegible, torn off or faded, you need to get a new green emissions sticker. A new sticker is also required when you change vehicle, change number plate or replace the windscreen.
🔧 Where should the emissions sticker be placed?
The green sticker is applied to the inside of the windscreen – clearly visible, as required by law. It is usually placed at the bottom right on the passenger side, where it is also easy to see during checks.
✔️ Step-by-step guide to applying it correctly:
- Clean the windscreen – especially the lower right area
- Align the sticker and peel off the protective film
- Stick it on the inside, at the bottom on the passenger side
- Press firmly so it doesn't come off
⚠️ Attention:
A sticker that has fallen off, is damaged or was removed by yourself is no longer valid. You risk a fine if you drive into a low emission zone without a valid sticker.
Yes – to issue a valid emissions sticker we need a clearly legible photo or scan of your vehicle registration document, as issued in your country.
Only with it can your vehicle be classified correctly and the legally recognised green sticker be produced.
🔒 Privacy notice:
You may cover or black out your name and address – we only need the technical vehicle data. The following are important:
- • Number plate (must match your order)
- • Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- • Date of first registration – this decides which sticker you get
🛠️ For older or imported vehicles:
If your vehicle has a retrofitted particulate filter or anything differs, please upload suitable proof as well – we will then check manually.
Please upload such documents too if you have them.
📄 Which documents are accepted?
- • Your vehicle registration document from your country – if it is a card, front and back; otherwise all pages showing the number plate, date of first registration and vehicle identification number (VIN).
- • If your vehicle is registered in Germany: the front of the registration certificate (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I) or the registration notice from i-Kfz (Germany's online registration).
- We can only accept other documents (e.g. the Fahrzeugbrief / registration certificate Part II) to a limited extent – processing may then take longer than usual.
✅ Tip: Don't worry – our system automatically recognises whether your vehicle qualifies for a green sticker. In special cases our team checks the data manually and gets in touch with you if anything is missing.
Yes, our emissions stickers are 100% legally valid, officially recognised and fully meet the legal requirements for the emissions sticker under the 35. BImSchV (German ordinance on the labelling of motor vehicles with a low contribution to pollution).
As a recognised emissions testing centre (AU-Stelle), we are authorised to issue official emissions stickers. The stickers are produced in Germany (Made in Germany) and come from a certified manufacturer that also supplies the Bundesdruckerei (German Federal Printing Office).
We are one of the largest online providers for private customers and may issue stickers with an officially printed number plate directly – no trip to the authorities needed.
⚠️ Beware of counterfeits on the internet!
Unfortunately, many supposedly cheap offers are not genuine emissions stickers but merely green decals with a fake imprint. Typical features of such fakes are:
- • Terms such as „KFZ-Garantie\" or fantasy seals in the stamp area
- • Company logos instead of official approval fields
- • Number plates handwritten with a marker pen
The consequence:
- • €100 fine
- • 1 penalty point in Flensburg (German driving register)
- • Criminal charges for forgery of documents (Section 267 German Criminal Code)
✅ Our advantages at a glance:
- • Officially recognised emissions sticker – valid nationwide in all low emission zones
- • Supplied directly by an officially authorised manufacturer
- • Special UV-resistant printing – no fading, no smudging
- • Made in Germany – durable quality with a 5-year guarantee against fading
- • Sent by post – no trip to the authorities needed
- • Also suitable for foreign vehicles and electric cars
- • Ideal when changing vehicles, registering a new car or after a windscreen repair
💡 Important:
Stickers that have been written on with a felt-tip or marker pen may become invalid as soon as the number plate fades or becomes illegible.
That's why we use a special UV-resistant printing process developed specifically for durable number plate printing – no standard ink!
